We bid farewell to our host family and head back down to Ollantaytambo. Our visit concludes with a display of some of the finished products, where you have the opportunity to purchase directly from the weavers (completely optional). We will enjoy an authentic Andean barbeque, called “pachamanca”, where the food is cooked beneath hot stones, covered up, then left to cook before its unearthed and enjoyed. Our hosts will demonstrate the labor of obtaining wool, spinning, dying, and finally creating their beautiful textiles, each unique and personal to the weaver. After a brief introduction, we are immersed into this preserved culture, where Quechua is the spoken language. In approximately 40 minutes we will arrive at the village of Patacancha, and after a short walk we are welcomed by our hosts for the day. You will witness locals wearing their traditional clothing, most of which was woven or made themselves. On the way we will pass the village of Huilloc, also known for its textiles. You will feel the air cool as we gain elevation to 3,785masl / 12,417’.
